Biennale Jogja (BJ) is an international biennale event held by the Government of the Special Region of Yogyakarta and organized by the Yogyakarta Biennale Foundation or “Yayasan Biennale Yogyakarta” (YBY). First held in 1988, this year is going to be the event’s 16th time. Starting from 2011, YBY launched the Biennale Jogja project called The Equator Series or “Seri Equator” which is focused on the equatorial regions.

Yogyakarta Biennale Foundation assumed the equator as a new perspective that also opens itself up for confrontation on the establishment or conventions around similar events. Equator exists as a starting point and a platform to together re-read the world.
